Being a mom is hard work and anyone that tries to tell you otherwise doesn’t know what they are talking about. Children need a lot of one-on-one attention, which can become both exhausting and overwhelming if you aren’t taking the time to take care of yourself. If you are feeling a little run down here are a few tips to help put an extra skip in your step as a parent.
As a mom you are most likely running like crazy all day long to get hundreds of things done. By the time it’s evening all you want to do is stare at your phone and turn your mind off. Maybe you take a few hours to finally watch your favorite show after you’ve said goodnight to your little one. While this is a great relaxing time, you might want to consider sending yourself to bed right after your kid at least a few times a week so you can catch up on some much-needed sleep.
Set Health Appointments
Keeping your child healthy is every good mama’s number one priority, but what about keeping yourself healthy? Many moms will go way too long between their wellness checkups and dental appointments. This might be because of financial issues or not wanting to find a babysitter while you’re at your appointment. Make your life a little easier by choosing a dentist that offers a full range of dental services so you can get everything done in one visit. Also, communicate with your doctor about your time constraint because you have a kid you need to get home to. Make sure these visits do happen though. Remember that the ship can’t function without its captain so you need to keep yourself healthy.
Take A Break
There is nothing wrong with having a family member or friend watch your kid for an hour or two so you can catch a moment of peace for yourself. Maybe you just take the time to go to the grocery store by yourself or grab a bite to eat without having to wrangle your kid throughout the entire meal. Whatever the case, remember that you need downtime and having someone watch your child for a little while is a totally fine thing to do.
It’s easy to get so caught up in caring for children that you forget to care for yourself. Find the time to care for yourself, even if that just means spending ten minutes in the morning putting on makeup so you can feel beautiful or going and getting your nails done so your hands look pretty. Pamper time doesn’t have to be long, but it does need to happen. A simple bath bomb and a soak can do wonders for a tired soul.
Go On Date Night
Mommy and daddy time is important for your marriage to stay healthy. Plan date nights for you and your spouse so you can keep the love alive. This is time for you to communicate with one another about things other than the kids. You need this time and so does your spouse. It’s important to feel heard when parenting.
Your child deserves the best you can give them. In order to be the best parent you can possibly be, remember to take care of your own needs.
